96-Year-Old Miami Beach Native Embodies “Love for Upcycling” As She Stuns in a Swimsuit at Miami Fashion Week

Representing the sustainable fashion brand “Love For Upcycling,” 96-year-old Gloria Mantell Pallot graced the runway during Miami Fashion’s Swim Week

The Art Hearts Fashion runway event, part of Swim Week in Miami for Fashion Week, took place at 1235 Washington Ave on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at 7:30 pm in Miami Beach.

96-year-old Gloria Mantell Pallot challenged ageism in the modeling industry and promoted sustainable fashion. She represented “Love For Upcycling” at the event, showcasing the brand’s commitment to sustainability and timeless fashion.

A Legacy of Sustainability

Born in Miami, Gloria Mantell Pallot’s childhood was spent playing on the sandy shores of Collins Ave and 3rd Street, where her family bungalow was direct oceanfront.

Growing up, Gloria witnessed the phenomenal creation of Ocean Drive and the transformation of downtown Miami into a bustling metropolis. Her participation in Fashion Week reflects a legacy of resilience and adaptability, mirroring the values of the brand she represents—“Love for Upcycling.

A Lifetime of Adventure

Seventy years ago, Gloria and ten other native Floridians started what was to be called the “Klicky Klub”.

Over the decades, the ten women lunched every Wednesday and planned their travels around the world, eventually visiting over 10 countries.

A fifth-generation Miami family, the Pallots opened Miami’s first gas and tire station. Through the decades, Norton Tire morphed into a chain of tire stores later acquired by Goodyear.

The family also started one of the first Miami Savings and Loans, Biscayne Federal (later acquired by Citibank). Gloria’s husband, Norton Pallot, will be 100 years old this year. The last time Gloria was center stage at an event was 73 years ago as she walked down the aisle to marry her husband, Norton.

“Old Is Gold”

Love For Upcycling is a sustainable brand dedicated to upcycling fashion. Emphasizing not discarding the “old” but repurposing it to create something beautiful and timeless. This philosophy supports the planet by reducing waste and leaving a better planet for generations to come.

Gloria was joined on the runway by her granddaughter-in-law-to-be. This multi-generational appearance symbolizes the blending of old and new, tradition and innovation. It perfectly aligns with “Love for Upcycling’s” ethos of creating something better from upcycled and repurposed materials.

Breaking Barriers

By walking the runway at the age of 96, Gloria has sent a powerful message: age is not a barrier to achieving dreams.

Gloria, who was a “Hurricane Honey” at the University of Miami in the early 1940s, is now challenging societal norms of aging and beauty.

You can be beautiful, exhibit style and elegance at any age including 96. As people live longer, timeless qualities transcend age. The 90s are the new 60s,” says Gloria

Gloria’s Secrets to Longevity

Gloria attributes her long life to maintaining a positive attitude, eating healthy (lots of soups and salads), and working out seven days a week.

Gloria’s philosophy is, “You can achieve anything you put your mind and heart into, including becoming a star at 96. Age is a number, so I never stop dreaming.”

Conclusion

Gloria Mantell Pallot’s inspiring journey is a reminder that dreams have no expiration date. Her walk down the runway is a powerful message of inspiration, resilience, and the endless possibilities that life offers at any age.

Gloria’s achievement is now a contender for the Guinness World Record as the oldest person ever to walk the runway, marking a significant milestone in both fashion and aging. “Love For Upcycling” is proud to be associated with such a transformative milestone in the fashion and sustainability industry.
