If you see an uptick in tea and crumpets being sold at intermissions in the next few months, now you’ll know what’s up. A second one-person performance of a classic work is coming to New York by way of London. The Sarah Snook–starring The Picture of Dorian Gray is arriving on Broadway, following an Olivier-winning run on the West End. It’s adapted and directed by Kip Williams, and Snook will play all 26 roles in what will be her Broadway debut. “It was a singular privilege to bring The Picture of Dorian Gray to life in London, and I am thrilled we will be able to share this astonishing production with audiences in New York,” Snook said in a statement. Gray’s transfer comes just after news of a sister production.
Andrew Scott’s Vanya, in which he plays all the parts in an adaptation of Uncle Vanya, is also heading to New York this spring after a run on the West End. Gray will play Broadway in March at a yet-to-be-specified date. Vanya, on the other same hand, will play Off Broadway house Lucille Lortel in March, with previews beginning March 11 and an opening set for March 18. Wow, now that’s a busy month for those two, specific people.
