Let’s see if this’ll be enough to get some people on the internet to stop looking at her the way she looked at Melody in that one Pussycat Dolls performance. On Friday, Nicole Scherzinger posted an Instagram Story statement to “deeply apologize for the hurt caused by my recent engagement with some social media posts.” This came amid backlash over suspicions that the Sunset Blvd. star supports Donald Trump and his MAGA movement, due in part to an Instagram comment that she left under a Russell Brand post from Election Day where he showed off a red “Make Jesus First Again” cap. “Where do I get this hat!!!?” Scherzinger wrote alongside a prayer emoji and a heart emoji. Screenshots have also circulated on social media that appear to show that Scherzinger liked an Instagram post from Robert F. Kennedy Jr. that had a caption expressing support for a Trump presidency.
In her apology statement, Scherzinger did not specify what posts she was talking about, but said she failed to realize that they could be “easily” and “understandably” viewed as “politically related.” Without naming any candidates, she said people have made “presumptions” that do not reflect what she stands for or who she voted for. “Many of the marginalized communities feeling hurt and concerned by the results of the presidential election are people I care about most,” she added. “I stand with them, as I always have, throughout my life and career. If you know me, you know that.” According to Scherzinger, she turns to her faith in times of adversity and uncertainty, and thought she was engaging with posts about love, faith, and putting Jesus first. “I come from a place of love, and I will always support values that bring us closer together,” she wrote. “It’s so important we come together with compassion, and love one another more now than ever.”
