There’s been lots of royals news as of late. Masked men broke into some farm buildings on Prince William and Kate Middleton’s estate. Prince Charles got to meet an unenthused Paul Mescal. Meghan Markle danced. But what about Prince Harry? What’s that guy been up to?
Well, he got a fake tattoo from Jelly Roll to promote the Invictus Games, the Olympics-esque event he hosts for injured veterans.
I’m no Peggy Olson, but this ad barely makes sense. The caption seems to imply that it’s a play on the double meaning of the word “ink,” which would be a bit of a stretch even if it explicitly came up in the ad (it doesn’t). In the video, Harry thinks he’s having a business meeting with Jelly Roll at a tattoo parlor (why?) and instead winds up with his first tattoo (huh?). “I was thinking the lower back or on my ass,” Harry tells the singer. The royal ends up getting the Invictus Games logo on his neck, and we’re all on the floor laughing.
The commercial won’t be winning a Clio any time soon, but I guess I’m now aware that Jelly Roll will be performing at the Invictus Games in Vancouver next year. Mission accomplished?
