It looks like Jonathan Majors’s image-rehabilitation plan is going smoothly. On Sunday, Majors and Meagan Good announced their engagement on the red carpet at the Ebony Power 100 Gala, resulting in a wave of fawning coverage for the couple.
“We’re feeling great,” Good told People after showing off the ring to photographers. Majors chimed in to add, “It’s a season of joy.”
The couple have been together since May of last year and opted to make their big announcement at the Ebony event for sentimental reasons. “Ebony Power 100 is the event that we met at in the bathrooms, in the unisex bathroom,” Good explained. Très romantique.
Majors told Extra that he proposed twice but was vague about the details. “I just move with my heart, brother. You know me, I’m crazy. Let love lead the way, amen,” he said.
Majors and Good were first rumored to be dating last May, just two months after Majors was taken into custody by the NYPD for a “domestic dispute” with his then-girlfriend. The actor was swiftly dropped by his talent agency and PR firm (and, eventually, Marvel) but scooped up by Good, who was by his side throughout his domestic-violence trial last December. Majors was found guilty of misdemeanor assault and harassment and sentenced to one year of counseling.
Since then, he has been slowly reemerging into Hollywood’s version of polite society. In June, he appeared at the Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards, where he accepted an award for “perseverance.” Now, he and Good are hamming it up for the cameras at the Ebony gala. At this rate, I think we can expect to see them in full force at an Oscars after-party come March. Not Vanity Fair’s or Elton John’s, but definitely one of the B-tier ones.
