Nearly every season, Coperni has a trick up its sleeve that makes us all say “ooo” (the Bella Hadid spray-on dress) and “ahh” (the Swipe bag made of literal air) and sometimes “why?” (the freaky Boston Dynamics robot dogs walking the runway). This year, it feels like the brand really pulled all the eye-catching stops out, but none would have been as effective as having Kylie Jenner close out the show.
In the final look of the final show of the final week of the whirlwind that is fashion month, Jenner emerged down the catwalk at Disneyland Paris — which the brand closed for the show and following after-party — in a dramatic black ball gown and matching gloves. She wore her hair down and loose with a blushed-makeup look framing her face. The only thing missing was Stormi, a notable Disney-loving girly, walking hand in hand with her. All in all, Jenner looked like a princess, which was quite literally the point.
Sebastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, co-founders of Coperni, split their show, which was a collaboration with Disney, into three acts: “park tribes,” a celebration of youth and nostalgia; “the villains”; and Jenner’s section, “the princess transformation” (i.e., when innocence “reclaims its power.”). Jenner’s runway walk even prompted a hug from Pauline Chalamet, the sister of her rumored beau, Timothée, who is currently on set for Josh Safdie’s upcoming film Marty Supreme.
“Our collection tells a story of ourselves — the princes and princesses, rebellious teenagers, and powerful heroes and villains we all have the capacity to represent,” the duo said in a press release. And considering Jenner has been in the public eye for so long, it’s safe to say that she’s fit into every one of these categories at some point in time, at least to the external observer. Maybe this was a masterclass in casting after all …
