Meta has rolled out a new way to control how Instagram tracks your web activity.
Activity Off-Meta Technologies (formerly known as Off-Facebook Activity) and Transfer Your Information were previously available for Facebook are now available for Instagram as well.
Activity Off-Meta Technologies allows you to control what information from your web activity is shared with Meta by third parties.
Within the app, you can review the businesses that you might visit that are sharing data with Meta, for instance Airbnb, and then decide if you’d like to disconnect specific sites from your account or clear the data entirely. That data is used to show you relevant ads, so it might be something you’d like to keep in place. That said, if you’re like me and are highly susceptible to a targeted Instagram ad, then you might want to clear it out.
You can view what businesses are sharing information about you with Instagram by going to the Settings menu within Instagram and then selecting Accounts Center.
Additionally, Meta added the ability to download information from both your Instagram and Facebook accounts simultaneously. So you can decide to do something like download your photos and do so for both your Facebook and Instagram accounts simultaneously rather than having to handle each service on its own. The ability to download things from just one service; however, is still available.
