Rashida Jones, one of Quincy Jones’s seven children, has joined much of Hollywood in paying homage to her father after his death at 91. In a recent Instagram post, she shared a baby photo of herself with the music mogul and superproducer often known as Q, noting in the caption that he was “nocturnal” and kept “jazz hours” throughout his entire adult life. “When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to search for him. Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music),” she recalled. “He would never send me back to bed. He would smile and bring me into his arms while he continued to work…there was no safer place in the world for me.” The Parks and Recreation star — who previously highlighted her father’s life as the co-writer and co-director of his Grammy-winning 2018 documentary Quincy — went on to praise him as a “giant,” “icon,” “culture shifter,” and “genius.” But she also suggested that all of his work was a channel for his true legacy: his love. “I was fortunate enough to experience this love in close proximity,” she wrote. “I’ll miss his hugs and kisses and unconditional devotion and advice. Daddy, it is an honor to be your daughter. Your love lives forever.”
