Stevie Nicks’s new song “The Lighthouse” came out of a moment of darkness as it was written a few months after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, thus threatening abortion rights in the US. In a statement shared with Vulture, Nicks explained, “It seemed like overnight, people were saying ‘what can we, as a collective force, do about this…’ For me, it was to write a song.” The music video mixes footage from feminist movements, women wearing abortion rights phrases, and Nicks belting it out in a gothic room before heading into the lighthouse to become the beacon of light. Towards the end of the video, the protesters meet up with Nicks by the beach to empower each other and inspire others to stand up for their rights, just as they see the light at the end of the darkness.
