The Education Pandemic: Chronicles of a Black Teacher in America

California – Michele Lamons-Raiford is proud to announce the publication of her anthology titled “The Education Pandemic: Chronicles of a Black Teacher in America.” Lamons-Raiford shares her experiences as a hearing American Sign Language (ASL) and English teacher at Pinole Valley High School in the West Contra Costa Unified School District in this powerful memoir. With twenty-two years of high school teaching and seventeen years as an adjunct instructor at Solano Community College, Lamons-Raiford brings a unique perspective to the challenges faced by Black educators.

The book delves into the systemic anti-Black racism and oppression that have perpetuated educational inequity. Lamons-Raiford’s journey as an advocate for ASL, Deaf Culture, students with special needs, and culturally affirming, anti-racist school environments is inspiring and eye-opening. She highlights teachers’ critical role in disrupting inequitable systems and serving as powerful role models for all students.

“The Education Pandemic” also explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on education, calling attention to existing racial and economic disparities. Lamons-Raiford’s candid reflections reveal the resilience and hope required to navigate a broken system, especially during times of crisis.

“The Education Pandemic” is a must-read for educators, policymakers, and anyone committed to dismantling educational inequities. Lamons-Raiford’s powerful narrative challenges us to reimagine education and create a more just and inclusive future. This anthology is now available for pre-order via Barnes & Noble and will be available on Amazon on 8/13/24.
