The Trump Team Is Hijacking Miss Universe’s Win

Leave it to the Trump Establishment to take a woman’s crowning achievement (literally the Miss Universe win) and somehow make it about them and their agenda. Donald Trump has yet to assume the presidency (again), and yet he and his cronies — er, I mean official, presidential Cabinet — are making the rounds both IRL and online, seemingly spilling their signature hateful rhetoric. Oh, joy.

On Monday, Donald Trump Jr. tweeted a video of Victoria Kjaer, who was crowned this year’s Miss Universe, and, in my opinion, attempted to ruin the whole thing. In his post, he wrote, “Biological & objectively attractive women are allowed to win beauty pageants again. WE ARE SO BACK!!!” Okay, ick! Many words are amiss in just this short statement. First, as if objectively attractive women haven’t been winning these beauty pageants. I went through a list of every single Miss Universe winner ever to exist, and just in the past ten years, every single woman crowned is objectively, undeniably beautiful. Perhaps the word Trump Jr. was looking for is blonde? Or maybe … white?

Second, while trans women have yet to win the title, they have competed in the pageant and placed in the top 20. As they should!

Who won Miss Universe 2024?

On November 17, Kjaer of Denmark was crowned this year’s Miss Universe in a touching moment filled with the usual, but sweet, pomp and circumstance: hand-holding, shocked faces, happy tears, a shimmering crown, and through it all, not a single hair out of place.

What’s Elon Musk doing here?

This little sea urchin is everywhere you see any of the Trumps so much as think about going. It’s rich seeing Elon Musk politicizing and supporting Kjaer’s win (“Breaking: Internet Stunned After an Attractive Biological Female Human of Healthy Weight Wins Miss Universe Pageant”). Give it a rest, dude, she’s not going to notice you, and Trump is not going to adopt you into his family.

Wait, wasn’t Donald Trump involved with Miss Universe?

For whatever reason, from 1996 to 2015, Donald Trump owned Miss USA, the competition that feeds into Miss Universe. In a heaping dose of “you love to see it,” both competitions are now owned by Thailand-based media company JKN Global Group, whose CEO, Anne Jakrajutatip, is a trans woman.
