Three people have been charged in relation to Liam Payne’s death. Two of those people, a hotel worker and an alleged drug dealer, have been charged with supplying the drugs that were in the late singer’s system when he fell from a third-floor balcony in Buenos Aires last month. The third person, per Rolling Stone, is an Argentinian businessman who had been spending time with Payne while he was in Buenos Aires. He has not been detained but is being charged with abandonment of a person followed by death.
La Nacíon, a Buenos Aires–based paper, reported that Payne’s friend posed as the singer’s manager, even though that was not the case. According to the report, this man allegedly withheld Payne’s drug relapse from his family and did not respond to calls from police on the day of Payne’s death.
In a statement released on Thursday, Andrés Madrea, the prosecutor in the case, announced that a toxicology report revealed Payne had cocaine, alcohol, and a prescription antidepressant in his system when he died. There was no mention of “pink cocaine” — a mixture of MDMA, ketamine, and methamphetamine — which ABC News had previously reported Payne had in his system.
On Wednesday, Payne’s body was released to his family and flown back to the U.K.
