Stylist and designer Veneda Carter has somewhat of a uniform: baggy sweatsuits with heels and piled-on gold jewelry, because you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for style. “I love the balance between masculine pieces and feminine elements,” she says. She goes big and bold; perhaps you’ve seen the viral glazed Timbs from her earlier collaboration?

A wardrobe full of cool pieces takes time to build, and Carter has put in the work. She spends most of her time falling down the eBay rabbit hole collecting vintage shoes at Los Angeles–based shops like 194 and Departamento. Below, see where Carter got the pieces that made their way into her curated wardrobe and home.

Where did you get the inanimate object that brings you the most joy?

Parachute. Now that I’m a mother, my priorities have changed so much. I started caring about my sheets, my bed, my topper. I have an amazing bed and comforter from Parachute, they also have amazing linen sheets. I grew up in Copenhagen, and it was so cold there for most of the year I always had a big fluffy comforter. This is when I have time to relax and cuddle with my daughter, in the mornings especially. We’ll wake up and watch TV and chat before I get her ready for school.

Where did you get your favorite pair of shoes?

My favorite shoes are the ones I made with Timberland. This is my third. I was on eBay researching and this old Euro Dub boot popped up, and I had never seen it before. It was blue and soft leather. I sent a screenshot of the boot to Geraldo, who works at Timberland. I said, “Wait what is this boot? I love it, can I get it?” The one on eBay wasn’t in my size. They told me this boot wasn’t made anymore; they didn’t even have the mold of the shoe available. So this is a brand-new heel; it’s a combination of the first heel I did with Timberland and the Euro Dub, which had a low heel.

For the silver six-inch, I was really drawn to stainless-steel aluminum furniture and design. At the time, my friend Maddy was designing a stainless-steel DJ booth and I liked the idea of patent-leather chrome. I also make jewelry and I was starting to like silver. Being able to create a whole new boot with Timberland is so awesome.

Where did you get your most recent purchase?

A True Religion sweatsuit. I wore it with a snakeskin kitten-heel boot. I love to be comfortable. There are so many ways to style them, it doesn’t have to be with sneakers or flats. I love to collect them, you can go out to a dinner or a party in a sweatsuit with the right footwear.

Where did you get your favorite piece of clothing?

Aris Tatalovich. He’s a new designer, I believe he’s from New York. He’s really good friends with Lil Yachty, who’s also a good friend of mine. He actually put me on to his stuff. He sent me a couple of pieces not too long ago and they’re amazing. It’s an elevated polo. The shape and fabric is great, you can cinch the shirts on the side. You can wear it shorter or baggier.

Where did you get the item you wear the most?

My jeans are from Mister Freedom. The owner is a collector and he sells a lot of his own brand and some vintage stuff. I got this amazing pair of off-white raw, deadstock denim, they were so expensive but I love them so much. I got four pairs just to have them.

Where did you get your signature scent?

Byredo. I discovered Byredo for the first time when I worked at Yeezy. Kanye would always have Byredo candles. I got something gifted and that’s how I found their scents. I wear a couple of their scents, I switch it up. I love the collab they did with Travis Scott, Space Rage, a couple of years ago. It stays on the skin and doesn’t fade. They’re all interesting and unique.

Where did you get your favorite item to layer?

My thermals are from surplus stores. They have really great thermals at American Rag on La Brea in Los Angeles. My layering formula depends on where I’m going. Thermals are nice because they actually have a purpose when it’s cold. Sometimes I wear them under a T-shirt or a jacket or a baggier version on its own. I cut up some of my thermals like a tank top.

Where do you get your favorite gifts to give?

Tomoko or my brand. The signature nugget chain was the first thing I designed and people really love that one. It’s very universal.

Where did you get the item you’ve had for the longest time?

EBay. I used to collect a lot of sneakers and some of my favorite runners are from eBay. It’s time consuming to find good stuff, but you have to be patient. Once you search one thing other stuff will pop up in the suggestions. That’s how I find stuff because there will be something similar but in a different colorway. I like to search deadstock items or vintage from Nike or Timberland.

I bought the reference for the first heel boot I did two years ago on eBay. When I started working with them, they asked where I found all of these Timbs because there were so many they hadn’t seen before. People will have rare stuff without knowing and the price will be so low. My favorite pair I got for less than $100. Most of my really special items are from there and you won’t find anyone with the same thing.
